Kuwait

Kuwait City · Salmiya · Hawally

A long-established working community concentrated in Salmiya and Hawally — high earners whose housing is almost entirely rental, with savings flowing to property in Lebanon or Dubai.

Can foreigners buy? Effectively a rent-only market for foreigners: non-GCC nationals need 10 years' residence and Council of Ministers approval to own a single property — in practice, Lebanese residents rent.

Relocating & renting in Kuwait — how it works

  1. 1Expat life centres on apartment rentals in Salmiya, Hawally, Mahboula and Fintas — sea-view towers and compound apartments.
  2. 2Leases run yearly with 1–2 months' deposit; rent is usually paid by post-dated cheques, so a Kuwaiti bank account comes first.
  3. 3Utilities (electricity/water via MEW) transfer into your name and require a civil ID — landlords or agents handle the setup for a fee.
  4. 4Since buying is closed off, Lebanese savings here typically target property back home or in Dubai — see the UAE hub for that route.
